Killara kennels was registered in 1960 when Dawn was breeding, showing and trialing Collie Roughs. The first German Shepherd Litter under the Killara prefix was from a bitch called Aalst Karie C.D.

Puppies that we kept from Karie were Killara Lucifers Lucre C.D., T.D and Killara Adel C.D.

Dawn has been involved in showing breeding and trialing firstly a number of Collie Roughs, then a Standard Poodle. After Peter and Dawn were married we bought our first German Shepherd, Waheeds Fara C.D.X. She was one of the first progeny of Ingo vom Hafenlortal. Since then we have concentrated on GSD's except for a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Bellaway Lone Sailor C.D.,T.D. (Charles). He thought he was a GSD, but proved a real challenge to train. He lived until he was 16 1/2 spanning the lives of several GSDs who were dominated by him.

Our main consuming interest is tracking. Apart from our own dogs we help several other people as well. One of our group Fernamber Talisman C.D.X. won the Victorian Tracking Dog of the Year title in 2004. In 2005 he won Champion of Champions. Most of the puppies from both of Vixens litters are in this group. From the T litter three are Trackin Champions and one has their Tracking Qualification test, plus some have Novice and Open Obedience titles.

From the P litter three of the four puppies are Tracking Champions and the other has Novice Obedience title and is now in Open obedience.
